Data for the database on financial literacy before retirement were collected by the Israel Gerontological Data Center in an evaluation study conducted in 2012, which was commissioned and funded by the Ministry for Senior Citizens. In the evaluation study, we sought to examine financial knowledge and implementation of that knowledge among senior citizens in Israel. The knowledge examined in the study related to familiarity with terms as well as to accounting ability. Implementation of financial knowledge was examined on the basis of the sources that older people use to search for information, how frequently they check their accounts, and literacy about pension. Data were collected in an Internet panel survey from 501 persons aged 46-61. Participants were Jewish, Hebrew-speaking residents of Israel who were born in the country or immigrated before 1990. The participants had higher than average levels of education for persons in their age group.
